NegOtiations Update - 6/1/09
The conciliation proceedings were last week, with the hearing wrapping up on Thursday May 28th. After an attempt by the conciliator to facilitate resolution of the outstanding issues through mediation, both sides presented evidence and testimony to support their final positions. It is expected that a decision will be made in the next six weeks.
Please remember that your bargaining committee is not at liberty to discuss details about negotiations or the conciliation proceedings. As soon as we receive a decision from the conciliator, it will be announced.
Update - 4/29/09
Thank you again for showing of solidarity at last week’s vote! We took what you had to say back to the bargaining table. Unfortunately, we were unable to reach a settlement with management. We are now working toward conciliation and getting a fair contract for the nurses.
It is still important to support each other and your bargaining committee. Because we are technically still in negotiations and in observance of our ground rules and our strong commitment to bargaining in good faith, we continue to ask that all nurses refrain from speaking with the media.
Negotiations Update - 4/24/09
Vote results are in!!
Over 1400 members of our bargaining unit turned out to vote and give the negotiating committee feedback and support. THANK YOU! Through your votes and written comments you have given us clear direction as to how we need to respond to management’s last, best and final offer. The vote by an overwhelming majority rejects management’s offer.
What is the next step?
The negotiating committee plans to present a response to management’s offer next week. Our hope remains reaching settlement with management. If negotiations fail to progress once we present management with our response, we will begin preparing for conciliation. If that occurs, members will be advised of their rights to engage in concerted activities. Our objective remains to get a fair contract for the nurses.
What can members do?
Continue to stick together and support each other and the Negotiating Committee. Don’t criticize and continue to be positive!
Questions?
Rumor control is still very important, so if you hear anything that sounds unusual, please speak with an OSUNO officer to verify rather than passing it along. We still ask that nurses refrain from talking with the media about our negotiations.
Meetings
It may become necessary to conduct more meetings during the remainder of negotiations. The hope is that these will be ratification meetings. These meetings will be closed meetings, meaning only members will be permitted to attend and cast a vote.
